Where the Bean Burrito came from
Introduced 1962
Glen Bell opened the first Taco Bell on 6 July 1962 at 7112 Firestone Boulevard in Downey, California. Burritos were on the menu from the first day.
- The original menu was tacos, burritos, tostadas, chiliburgers and frijoles — every item 19 cents, about $2 in today's money.
- Bell had been running a hot dog stand in San Bernardino since 1948 before he switched to Mexican-inspired food.
