Where the Frosty came from
Introduced 1969
Dave Thomas put the Frosty on Wendy's menu in 1969 as one of the original five items, and made it thick enough to require a spoon — inspired by milkshakes he had grown up with in Detroit. The original recipe came from Fred Kappus.
- The original "light chocolate" flavour was a blend of chocolate and vanilla rather than pure chocolate. Thomas believed a full chocolate flavour would overwhelm the taste of the hamburgers it was sold alongside.
- A dedicated vanilla Frosty did not arrive until August 2006, after repeated customer requests.
