Where the Frosty came from

Introduced 1969

Dave Thomas put the Frosty on Wendy's menu in 1969 as one of the original five items, and made it thick enough to require a spoon — inspired by milkshakes he had grown up with in Detroit. The original recipe came from Fred Kappus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories are in a small Frosty?

A small vanilla Frosty is 340 calories; a small chocolate Frosty is also 340.

How many calories are in a Junior Frosty?

190 calories, the smallest size Wendy's publishes.

Is the chocolate or vanilla Frosty lower in calories?

They are essentially identical at every size.

Why is a Frosty so thick?

By design. Dave Thomas wanted it thick enough to need a spoon, and blended chocolate with vanilla so the flavour would not overpower the burgers.
