Where the McFlurry came from
Introduced 1995
Ron McLellan, a McDonald's franchisee in Bathurst, New Brunswick, created the McFlurry in 1995. The first one was Oreo, on 7 June 1995. It reached the United States in 1997.
- The square hollow handle on a McFlurry spoon is not a spoon design at all — it attaches to the blender, which is what mixes the sweets through the ice cream.
- Until September 2006 the lid's opening was large enough for hedgehogs to get their heads stuck in discarded cups. McDonald's redesigned it after research and testing to make the opening too small.
