Where the McChicken came from
Introduced 1980
The McChicken arrived in 1980, sold poorly, and was pulled — replaced on the menu by Chicken McNuggets. It was reintroduced in 1988, dropped from US menus again on 26 September 1996 in favour of the Crispy Chicken Deluxe, and then phased back in through late 1997.
- It came back the second time because of letters and petitions from customers, which is a rare thing for a fast-food sandwich to survive on.
- The sandwich has shrunk over the years to hold its price point, having long been a fixture of the Dollar Menu.
- The patty was originally an even 50/50 split of white and dark meat.
